
Curriculum
The goal of this fellowship program is to provide young surgeons with a wide variety of complex general surgical experience. While there will be a strong focus on development of surgical technique and exposure to complex surgical decision making, the fellow will be heavily involved in preoperative evaluations and postoperative management. The fellow will gain experience in complex hernia, foregut, bariatric, colorectal, solid orgain, oncologic procedures, and flexible endoscopy. A large number of the bariatric, foregut, and hernia procedures will be revisional. Laparoscopic and open techniques will be utilized, but robotic approaches will hold the greatest focus. Fellows will remain on a single advanced GI/colorectal service for the duration of the one year fellowship, without any off campus rotations.

- Identify young surgeons motivated to advance the field of minimally invasive surgery
- Develop surgeon interest in clinical research and highlight the importance of applying new technology to patient care
- Provide fellows with a wide variety of complex general surgical experience to enhance transition to practice and minimize reliance on senior partner supervision
Daily Routine
Conferences and Teaching
- Weekly Grand Rounds
- Weekly Morbidity and Mortality Conference
- Biweekly GI Tumor Board
- Fellow will present one Grand Rounds during the year
Call Responsibilities
- The fellow will provide general surgery call coverage on average 3-4 nights per month
- Faculty will provide adequate support to avoid call duties negatively impacting other fellow responsibilities
Clinic Responsibilities
The fellow is expected to participate in 1-2 half day clinics per week in order to gain adequate experiencing in the preoperative decision making for bariatric, foregut, oncologic, colorectal, and complex hernia patients
Scholarly Activity
The fellow will be required to participate in one research project and one quality improvement project. The research project must be submitted for publication or presentation at a national meeting, though it is not mandatory for the project to be accepted.
Evaluations
This program will follow the Fellowship Council guidelines for formal evaluation of faculty and fellows. Written quarterly operative assessments and evaluations of the fellow will be provided. In turn, written quarterly evaluations of faculty will be performed by the fellow.

- 85 Additional Complex MIS Cases
- 150 Total Complex MIS Cases*
*Cholecystectomy, appendectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy due not count towards complex MIS cases.
