Gunjan Lab
Our lab studies how histone proteins package DNA into chromosomes and how this packaging regulates all DNA-dependent processes in a very fundamental way, thereby impacting all aspects of human health and disease. Our basic research focuses on understanding the role of histones in DNA repair, genome maintenance, and cancer. A new direction in our lab is the study of mechanisms that drive fibrotic disorders, such as keloid tumors in skin and organ fibrosis such as lung fibrosis, with emphasis on therapeutic applications. Our pre-clinical and translational research leverages the results from our basic research to develop and test potential therapeutics for specific diseases using animal models for subsequent translation to the clinic to treat patients.
