About the Program

clinic Program Overview :

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a three-year training program that prepares graduates to practice internal medicine in diverse settings, including academic, clinical, and community settings. The program provides residents with extensive clinical experience as residents rotate through all of the disciplines of internal medicine under the supervision of experienced clinician educators. Residents have the opportunity to select additional rotations, inclusive of research, to best fit their personal career goals, while maintaining work-life balance.

Residents work closely with our faculty members who actively participate in the delivery of a strong didactic curriculum. The faculty’s wealth of clinical experience coupled with the program’s educational efforts, ensures that our residents graduate from our program as highly competent internal medicine physicians.

Program Design :Our program was carefully designed to meet the requirements specified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, but moreover, to align with the healthcare needs of the region; the mission of Florida State University College of Medicine to train residents in primary care; and of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System's commitment to being a safety-net hospital dedicated to the highest excellence in patient care, quality and patient safety, and innovation. Most importantly, our program was conceptualized based on educational needs of residents, rather than service needs of the hospital.
