In the state of Olancho in Central Honduras, Dr. German Jimenez is a living example of integrating medicine and public health. He is a family physician, seeing patients in clinic. He is public health director for his local district, engaging in disease surveillance and vaccination records. He also is a community health leader, training and deploying promotores de salud for malaria prevention and sanitation. He also trains and supervises nurse auxillaires as physician extenders in remote villages.
