Training Environment

The Internship is based at the Florida State University College of Medicine Isabel Collier Read Medical Campus in Southwest Florida. Interns train across multiple integrated healthcare settings that provide exposure to diverse patient populations, interdisciplinary care teams, and evidence-based models of healthcare delivery. 

Healthcare Network – Immokalee, FL

Healthcare Network is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves rural and underserved communities throughout Southwest Florida. Interns work alongside physicians, behavioral health providers, nurses, and medical staff within a fully integrated model of care.

Healthcare Network serves culturally and linguistically diverse populations, including many agricultural workers and their families. 

Lee Health – Fort Myers, FL

Lee Health is one of the largest healthcare systems in Florida and provides interns with training in integrated behavioral health within primary care settings.

Clinical experiences may include:

  • FSU Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Lee Community Clinic
  • Family Medicine Clinics
  • Patient-Centered Medical Home settings
  • Interdisciplinary consultation and collaborative care

Interns learn to function as integral members of healthcare teams while serving patients across the lifespan. 

FSU Center for Child Stress & Health – Immokalee, FL

The FSU Center for Child Stress & Health is a nationally recognized resource focused on childhood adversity, trauma-informed care, and integrated behavioral health services for children and families. The Center is affiliated with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN).

Interns may participate in:

  • Child and family-centered behavioral health services
  • Community outreach
  • Program development
  • Research and scholarly activities
  • Trauma-informed care initiatives
