To provide outstanding training for Family Medicine residents by delivering excellent patient care in an atmosphere of mutual support and trust.
To train compassionate and skilled family medicine physicians who are dedicated to and capable of meeting the diverse healthcare needs of their community.
There are too many reasons to list! Here are just a few characteristics of the program that our residents have found meaningful:
We are a community-based residency program that has existed for 50+ years, with an academic partnership, an OB Fellowship, and 100% ABFM board passage
You’ll find here a diverse cohort of talented co-residents, and supportive faculty with a broad range of skills, interests, and experience, all with a commitment to advancing residents’ knowledge and careers
Our health system is dedicated to continual growth an improvement, evidenced by a recent transition to Epic EMR, and active construction of a state-of-the-art 130,000sqft Academic Health Center, which will house our Family Medicine Center (clinic) beginning in 2026.
Our inpatient medicine and OB services are staffed by family medicine core faculty, modeling what it is like for family docs to provide care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Tallahassee is a great place to live and train, with excellent quality of life and great “bang-for-your buck” with relatively low cost of living compared to other Florida cities.
TMH is a Private-Not for Profit enterprise, with Public Service Loan Forgiveness and other loan-repayment eligibility.
We are an 11-11-11 program with a passion for service at a hospital growing its academic footprint. Our host hospital (TMH) is also the home of 4 other residencies (internal medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, and pharmacy), offering benefits of both community and academic training experiences while still maintaining a sense of being “unopposed”— TMH FM residents are still the only residents on pediatric, obstetric, and emergency services.
We are situated in the heart of the Florida Panhandle, in a bustling capital city with the government sector and multiple universities, yet surrounded by over a hundred miles of rural land in all directions. This provides great learning opportunities across demographics and pathologies and in multiple learning environments both urban and rural. TMH offers broad and strong training in both hospital medicine and the primary care clinic across all demographics. After graduation, our residents go on to serve in a variety of settings, from rural full-scope inpatient/outpatient practices, to urban hospitalist, urgent care, ER, or primary care work.
